There’s something lovely about making a cup of tea and giving yourself permission to be still for a few minutes.

Not to fix anything.

Not to make a plan.

Not to figure out your entire life before the tea gets cold.

Just to pause.

That’s the idea behind A Moment to Steep — a little space to slow down, check in with yourself, and put a few thoughts on paper.

Journaling Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

Sometimes we make journaling harder than it needs to be.

We buy the beautiful notebook. We find the perfect pen. We decide that this will finally be the day we become someone who journals every morning for thirty minutes.

And then life happens.

But journaling doesn't have to be another thing on your to-do list.

You don't need pages and pages of writing. You don't need perfect handwriting. And you certainly don't need to have anything profound to say.

Sometimes one thoughtful question and five quiet minutes are enough.

So make yourself something warm, find a comfortable spot, open your journal, and choose whichever prompt feels right today.

10 Gentle Journal Prompts

1. What do I need more of in my life right now?

Try not to immediately think about what you should need. What are you genuinely craving more of — rest, laughter, creativity, connection, quiet, adventure?

2. What has felt heavy lately that I might be ready to put down?

You don't have to solve it. Sometimes simply naming what we've been carrying can make it feel a little lighter.

3. What is something small that brought me joy recently?

Maybe it was a conversation, a favorite song, a really good cup of coffee, sunshine through the window, or something that made you laugh when you weren't expecting it.

Small joys still count.

4. Where in my life could I give myself a little more grace?

Think about the expectations you've placed on yourself lately. Would you expect the same thing from someone you love?

5. What is something I'm looking forward to?

It doesn't have to be a big event. Friday night on the couch absolutely counts.

6. When do I feel most like myself?

Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? Notice what those moments have in common.

7. What am I proud of that I don't give myself enough credit for?

We tend to move quickly from one accomplishment to the next without stopping to recognize how far we've come.

Give yourself a moment to notice.

8. What could I make a little easier for myself this week?

Not everything has to be done the hardest possible way.

What could you simplify, postpone, delegate, say no to, or simply decide is good enough?

9. What is something I want to make time for simply because I enjoy it?

No productivity required. No side hustle. No improvement plan.

Just because you like it.

10. If I could give myself one kind piece of advice today, what would it be?

Write it the way you would say it to someone you care about.

Then consider whether you might deserve to hear it, too.

You Don't Have to Answer Them All

In fact, please don't feel like you need to.

Pick one.

Let your tea steep. Let your thoughts wander. Write three sentences or three pages. Stop when you're ready.

There is no right way to do this.

The purpose isn't to fill a journal.

It's to give yourself a few minutes to notice what's going on inside all the noise of everyday life.

And sometimes, that's enough.

Take a Moment to Steep

We'll be sharing more A Moment to Steep prompts from Tea & Thistle Books — little invitations to pause, reflect, and perhaps see something from a slightly different perspective.

Save the prompts that speak to you. Skip the ones that don't. Come back to them when you need them.

Put the kettle on.

Open your journal.

And take a moment to steep. ☕

Steep slowly. Read deeply. Stay awhile.
